Perpich Center for Arts Education

Perpich Center for Arts Education is the dedicated state agency supporting arts education for Minnesota. Our mission is to provide all Minnesota students the opportunity to develop, enhance, and integrate their artistic and academic abilities to their highest potential. We do this by teaching in and through the arts. We teach in our arts high school for juniors and seniors. We also teach through our professional development and research activities. We support teaching art and arts integration through the extensive arts education material in our library.

Job Summary

This position assists in maintaining and organizing the library collection for all library patrons including cataloging and processing new materials, and scheduling of the library space. The incumbent in this position also provides library reference assistance to a diverse library clientele and directs the work of student library assistants. The incumbent maintains library operations and services in the absence of the Library/Information Resource Service Specialist. The incumbent will work an intermittent schedule that requires flexibility and ability to work on short notice.

Minimum Qualifications

The following qualifications are required of all applicants seeking consideration for this position. Only applicants whose resumes
clearly demonstrate fulfillment of each of these minimum qualifications will be considered for the position.

  • Working knowledge of library classification system(s) and standard library reference tools sufficient to assist clients in locating materials and conducting research.
  • Knowledge of procedures for inter-library loan networks, copyright guidelines, location and verification of materials in order to complete inter-library loan activity.
  • Ability to operate personal computers, use various software and web-based applications, and other office equipment sufficient to locate catalog information, word-process documents, complete forms, and prepare reports.
  • Ability to apply and support detailed coding or cataloging systems sufficient to create tracking for new print and nonprint library acquisitions, locate, and replace existing materials.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing sufficient to determine and respond to the informational needs of clients of varied educational levels and backgrounds; to train, direct and evaluate work of student assistants; and to assist the professional library staff to maintain the library collection according to library policy and procedures.
  • Ability to build and maintain good working relationships with staff, faculty, students, and the general public while providing excellent patron services to all library visitors.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to work in an environment with diverse students, clients and workforce.
  • Experience with an Integrated Library System (ILS), e.g. Alma.
  • Experience working in an academic library.
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing priorities and changing procedures.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a field related to library sciences.

Physical Requirements

This position requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. Even though the weights being lifted may only be a negligible amount, a job in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with a degree of pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls.
