JOB SUMMARY
Perform entry-level routine library support work including checking in and shelving returned materials and maintaining order of these library materials. Assist in the labeling and packing of materials to be moved between branches and other metro-area libraries. Assist in the physical preparation of new library materials and make basic repairs on current collection. Assist in opening/closing procedures, turning on/off library equipment, straightening library furniture, and checking general appearance of library.

This position will work at two different libraries. The schedule is listed below:
Monday: 1:00-4:00 – Norwood Young America Library
Tuesday: 10:00-2:00 – Chaska Library
Wednesday: 10:00-1:00 Chaska Library/1:00-3:00 Norwood Young America Library
Thursday: 10:00-1:00 Chaska Library/1:00-4:00 Norwood Young America Library
Every 3rd Saturday: 12:00-3:00 Chaska Library (NO Wednesday morning when it is a Saturday week)

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Sort library materials in preparation for shelving or filing, retrieving and checking in books from book drop and automated materials handling system. Check condition of each item for damage. Shelve or file books, periodicals, pamphlets, and other library materials.
• Ensure the orderly appearance of the library by shelf reading to maintain proper location; straighten books that have been shifted during shelving process.
• Check in library materials and retrieve items from paging and other library lists.
• Straighten library during closing procedure; clear tables; put furniture in place; assist with library equipment.
• Assist in the physical preparation of new materials for the library collection by affixing labels, stamping, covering dust jackets, and packaging audio- visual materials. Likewise, repair damaged materials, and process withdrawn materials in the library collection.
• Help put up displays and support library programming and other marketing efforts.
• Prepare library materials, as directed, for delivery to other library system branches or metro-area libraries.
• Process and handle materials for the Express Library Services.
• Participate in on-going environmental scan of library to ensure a safe and friendly physical environment.
• Provide back-up for collecting and sorting daily mail.
• Other duties of a like or similar nature as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be at least 15 years of age and currently a student or a graduate of high school.

SCORED EXAMINATION PROCESS
All applications will be screened for minimum qualifications, scored and ranked. The highest ranked candidates meeting minimum qualifications will be recommended for the scored oral examinations (interviews). Final selection for the position will include successful completion of oral interview(s) and background investigation.
