Salary: $20.34 plus, DOQ.

About the Job
This Library Assistant 3 position provides evening student supervision and information services in the Access and Information Services (AIS) Department, and coordinates stacks maintenance and binding services for the East Bank Campus Libraries (Walter Library, the Mathematics Library, and the Architecture Library). This position works closely with East Bank operations staff and other AIS staff to contribute to the overall goals of AIS and the Libraries, and has responsibility for staffing the Walter Library and other East Bank service points.

Essential Functions
Student Supervision (30%)

● Provides support to evening student workers at Walter Library, Math Library, and Architecture Library, including training, coordinating coverage in the event of an absence, and assisting with patron questions and issues.
● Provide direction and leadership to student workers and library patrons when faced with emergency situations. Work with the Libraries Security Coordinator, Security Advisors, and others as appropriate.
● Monitors student work, provides appropriate feedback, and documents and communicates work-related issues.
● Works with students to improve performance, and resolves student personnel problems.
● In coordination with the Walter daytime student supervisor, develops student training materials to communicate policies and procedures using multiple methods of delivery (online, in-person, etc.)

Reserves (30%)
● Collaborates and coordinates with the Reserves units across the University Libraries to ensure continued development of best practices, effective operations, and appropriate communications for Reserves Services.
● Secures materials from appropriate libraries and recalls needed titles, works with faculty to add/modify courses.
● Creates and adjusts records using the Leganto course reserve system.
● Ensures continued development of best practices and effective operations for Reserves Services.
● Discharges inactive reserve material including personal copies.
● Creates temporary bibliographic records for non-library-owned items for course reserve.
● Assesses and repairs damaged books such as page repair, tip-ins, loose covers, etc.

Collection Management (20%)
● Oversees daily operations and management of stack services including paging, shelving, shifting, shelf-reading, pickup, stack maintenance, and troubleshooting complex problems.
● Monitors stack growth and recommends ongoing or special shifts to provide adequate growth space for collections.
● Trains student workers on stacks maintenance tasks such as shelving and shelf reading.
● Oversees all aspects of binding operations for the East Bank libraries (Walter, Math, and Architecture), including managing binding quota, using binding software to process shipments, and updating library records.

Information and Access Services (10%)
● Staff the service desks at Walter Library (and at other East Bank Libraries when needed) to provide reference, information, and access services. Continuously develops skills related to subject and new collections, materials, and e-resources.
● Serves as front-line staff for digital information services, answering questions in the campus-wide chat, email queues, and making referrals as appropriate.
● Assists users from a variety of cultures and communities in use of online and print materials.
● Promotes best practices and high standards for customer service.
● Coordinates all aspects of the process to place requested print materials on Course Reserve.
● Helps other library units with user support needs and related training as assigned.

General Department Support (10%)
● Acts as point person for borrowing privileges and fines and zone staff to waive fines.
● Provides technical services (e.g., process new reference items, oversee the incoming ISO standards process, make quick catalog records).
● Contributes ideas for improving unit and departmental policies, procedures, and services.
● Serves on Libraries-wide groups and committees as assigned.
● Provides backup support as needed for other activities of the department.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
● Five (5) years of relevant library experience. Up to three (3) years if college education can be substituted for experience
● Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills as demonstrated in the cover letter, resume, and interview
● Strong commitment to providing excellent customer service
● Strong interest in advancing diversity in the workplace

Preferred Qualifications:
● Supervisory experience
● Ability to work independently and in cooperation within a service-oriented, collaborative environment
● Strong technological and organizational skills
● Experience providing library reference assistance
● Familiarity with library resources including online catalogs and databases
