Qualifications
Required Qualifications:

Ph.D. in history
Experience managing an archive, including curation of manuscript materials, and digitization of materials
Experience working with census procedural histories and archival records
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously, and manage time efficiently
Excellent communication skills and experience communicating with a broad range of audiences
Preferred Qualifications:

A background in or experience with social science research, preferably with IPUMS data and collections
Familiarity with basic metadata standards for collection records and reference management software
Demonstrated ability to learn and use new technologies
About the Job
The ISRDI curator will work across ISRDI centers, managing the long-term preservation of physical and digital collections and carrying out research to support use of these collections. Most of the work will be focused on IPUMS data collection, with a particular attention to the IPUMS USA historical collection. The curator will also support preservation for MPC and LCC. The position reports to the ISRDI Associate Director and will work closely with the IPUMS outreach team. You will also interact with the ISRDI administrative team, the IT team, ISRDI center directors, IPUMS project managers, and the ISRDI director.

Responsibilities:

The ISRDI Curator will be responsible for the following activities, in support of the mission of ISRDI centers.

Manage physical collection of census and survey documentation for IPUMS (20%): Catalog existing print collection of census and survey documentation, prioritize material for scanning to digital format, and determine preservation plan for collection, including which documents should be preserved in current format. In collaboration with IPUMS researchers, develop plans to disseminate the catalog and digital versions of the collection to support research with IPUMS data.

Manage preservation of digital collections for IPUMS, MPC and LCC (20%): Work with IPUMS research staff to capture and preserve annual snapshots of databases and assign digital object identifiers to new versions of the data. Maintain working papers series for IPUMS, MPC and LCC, including assigning digital object identifiers and setting policies for version control.

IPUMS education and outreach (20%): Work with IPUMS User Support team to maintain the IPUMS bibliography, monitoring IPUMS usage and research impact. Support outreach efforts by participating as speaker or organizer in events hosted by IPUMS and affiliated research networks.

Research (35%): Prepare procedural histories to document IPUMS USA historical data collection production, working with historical data and IPUMS USA teams. Work on related institutional history research projects to support IPUMS data collection, publishing research results.

Manage and maintain institutional archives for ISRDI (5%): Work with ISRDI and center leadership to develop goals and policy for ISRDI institutional archives. Establish archive procedures and collaborate with ISRDI staff to accession appropriate materials.

Salary Range: $70k – $80k annually

The Institute for Social Research and Data Innovation (ISRDI) is a University-wide research institute that provides a vibrant and highly collaborative interdisciplinary research environment for four interrelated research centers (IPUMS, the Minnesota Population Center, the Life Course Center, and the Minnesota Research Data Center).
