Taxonomist/Web Specialist – Medtronic

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Medtronic is looking for a Taxonomist/Web Specialist to be part of our Global Digital team. The individual in this role will help lead the planning, design, and implementation of the taxonomy and information architecture for Medtronic.com. Responsibilities include the creation of taxonomic models, data models, data flow diagrams, vocabulary standards, and metadata management designs.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
• Identify requirements through research and analysis of user needs, preferences, objectives, and data available on how users consume content.
• Plan information architecture, create use cases, prepare data models, and design information structure, data flow, and navigation.
• Define and manage the overall digital taxonomy.
• Ensure that digital content is appropriately tagged and has correct metadata for SEO, dynamic content delivery models, site search, and as applicable the Medtronic analytics data layer.
• Collaborate with analytics team to analyze site usage and metrics reports (Adobe Analytics) and make suggestions for improvements to navigation, hierarchy, and site structure.
• Contribute and guide content management best practices.
• Educate stakeholders on an ongoing basis to champion taxonomy process, workflows, and implementation frameworks.
• Serve as resource to content management teams in editorial process, metadata implementation, content meta tags, html page tags, and keywords.
• Drive continuous improvements on IA processes, models, and taxonomy

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
•    Bachelor’s degree.

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
•    4+ years of experience in a similar IT role.

SPECIALIZED SKILLS OR EXPERIENCE:
•    Experience with large content management systems such as Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), Sitecore, Oracle CX, IBM Customer Experience, Drupal, etc.

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•    Demonstrated knowledge of controlled vocabularies, classification, data mapping, ontologies (relationship of terms), and taxonomies (hierarchy).
•    Experience assessing user needs (through use cases, journey maps, evaluation of analytics data, and UX research), developing sitemaps, doing content audits, creating metadata maps, and structuring content.
•    Experience analyzing large volumes of data from analytics tools (Adobe Analytics) and multiple databases, and making data-driven decisions to define navigation, product assortment, and increased discoverability.
•    Solid understanding of user experience, search engine optimization (SEO), information architecture, knowledge organization, metadata, and descriptive cataloging.
•    Proven ability to create, develop, and manage taxonomies for complex websites with cross-functional business partners.
•    Logical and analytical, with a strong attention to detail and adherence to overall strategy, as well as good communication skills and the ability to influence others.
•    Proven experience managing complex matrices and processes
•    Strong focus on process improvement and quality
•    Strong collaboration within large, complex organizations
•    Ability to conceptualize business problems, execute solutions, and present findings in a simple manner
•    Exceptional organizational and communication skills
•    Knowledge of AEM components, templates and functionality
•    Experience with analytics tools such as Adobe Analytics
•    Master’s degree in information management or library science
