The Altoona Public Library in Altoona, WI seeks a well-organized and energetic leader to direct the operations of their library.  The library is part of the Indianhead Federated Library System and MORE system.

The library serves a city of about 7,300 residents in one of the fastest growing areas in western Wisconsin. Altoona has the charm of a small town with its convenient proximity to the City of Eau Claire and the Twin Cities metropolitan area.  Nestled in the scenic beauty of Lake Altoona and the Eau Claire River, the area offers a variety of arts events and outdoor activities for all ages.

Responsibilities: The Library Director reports to a seven-member Board of Trustees and is responsible for the overall management of the library.  Essential duties include building and maintaining our collection, managing the library budget, supervising the library staff of eleven people (5.85 FTEs), planning programs for adult patrons, developing community partnerships, and promoting the library within the City of Altoona and the surrounding area.

Qualifications: Candidates must be eligible for Wisconsin Grade 1 certification. A Library Science Master’s Degree is required. Three or more years of library experience is preferred; library administration experience is also desirable. The ideal candidate shall also possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with library staff, the Library Board, the City of Altoona, and community organizations. Knowledge of current library practices, technology, and trends is required.
