About the Job

Overview
This Library Assistant 2 position provides support for the Course Reserves Service in the Access and Information Services Department. This position works closely with the Course Reserves Coordinator and other AIS staff to ensure successful operations of the Course Reserves service. This position also has responsibility for staffing the Wilson Library and Music Library service points. This position works with AIS staff to contribute to the overall goals of AIS.

Essential Functions
Course Reserves Support (40%)
Creates and adjusts records within the course reserve system for UMTC electronic reserves.
Assists with answering assigned departmental email accounts related to the Course Reserves service.
Assists with processing print reserves material.
Acts as a backup for troubleshooting links to online resources.
Assists with maintaining statistics related to the Reserves service; works with Reserves Coordinator to gather and collect data for Reserves Functions.

Information and Access Services (30%)
Staffs the information services desks, providing reference, information and access services that require judgement and informed appraisal of the user’s needs, based on thorough working knowledge of relevant library policies, procedures, tools and facilities.
Services as front-line staff for digital information services, answering questions in the campus-wide chat, email queues, and making referrals as appropriate.
Interprets circulation and catalog records for users.
Makes in person and phone referrals.
Assists users from diverse communities and cultures in use of online and print materials.
Provides instruction in effective database search skills.
Continuously develops skills related to subject and new collections/materials/e-resources.

Committee Work, Special Assignments & General Department Support (15%)
Updates information on Wilson webpages as assigned.
Attends and participates in unit and departmental meetings and functions.
Develops and maintains familiarity with University and library resources, policies and procedures.
Keeps current with technological advances within University Libraries.
Learns new software and applies it to support library functions/activities.

Non-­‐Essential Functions
Committee Work, Special Assignments & General Department Support (15%)
Provides backup support as needed for other functional work or activities of the department.
Service on Libraries-wide groups and committees as assigned.
Contributes ideas for improving unit policies, procedures and services.

About the Department
The Access and Information Services (AIS) Department, as part of the University Libraries Research and Learning Division, plays a critical role in supporting the University’s research, teaching and learning through stewardship of and access to content; support of instructional, informational and research services; and engagement/outreach within the University community and to the public. Position works with patrons from a variety of cultures and communities, servicing patrons from diverse backgrounds.  Specifically the AIS Department coordinates access services, stacks management, and information services at four service points for Wilson Library and the Music Library.  AIS also includes the Borchert Map Library and the Government Publications Unit where research and reference support and collection development/management are integral parts of our strong service focus.
