Position description
This Librarian I position seeks a supervisor for Access Services for Mayo Clinic’s Plummer Library in Rochester, MN. Access Services may include Circulation, Interlibrary Loan or similar customer-focused work groups. Responsible for staffing and managing Plummer Library’s service desks, covering the full range of library service hours. Sustains excellence in customer service. This position requires recruitment, hiring, training, monitoring and evaluation of employees. Supervisory responsibility for Access Services requires constant attention to customer service, service details, staffing, scheduling and fulfillment of service requests. Must become an expert user of library systems – Sierra ILS and three interlibrary loan systems: OCLC, DOCLINE and ILLiad.

The Librarian I, an intermediate Bachelor-prepared position, bridges the Associate and Librarian career ladder series. Under general supervision by the Supervisor of Public Services, the Librarian I performs professional level responsibilities encompassing library science, information management and information technology. This position will perform work focused on customer service and patron satisfaction. Public services responsibilities may include the provision of reference, research and educational services to faculty, staff, students, patients and others. Successful collaboration with Technical Services staff will be essential. The Librarian I is expected to work in Mayo Clinic’s Plummer Library in Rochester, MN and may occasionally work in other Rochester-based library locations.

The Librarian I is expected to respect the privacy of library patrons and maintain confidential data successfully. Must model and lead coworkers in the delivery of respectful, excellence in customer service.

May participate on library committees or task forces. May perform other tasks that support services, maintain workload or provide coverage in the work unit or elsewhere in the Mayo Clinic Library system.

Qualifications
Baccalaureate degree from an accredited program required. Library experience preferred, particularly work experience in a health sciences or scientific research library setting.

Additional qualifications
Preferred qualifications include beginning level knowledge in one or more of the following areas: leadership and management, library informatics and systems information, information analysis and synthesis, promotion of scholarship and knowledge management through instruction, organization of knowledge, and library professionalism. Additional preferred qualifications include prior use of Sierra, OCLC, DOCLINE or ILLiad, experience in staffing and training employees, supervisory experience, a track record of excellence in customer service, web management skills, and personnel training and management.

Exemption status: Non-exempt
Compensation Detail: Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $22.80 per hour.

Schedule details: The Librarian I is primarily expected to work daytime hours, but some evening and weekend hours will be required for oversight of staff working in the Mayo Clinic’s Plummer Library in Rochester, MN.
Weekend schedule: Occasional evening and weekend hours.
