JOB TYPE: Probationary tenure-track faculty position, academic year and summer duty. Assignment to Academic rank will be commensurate with experience and education.

PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF POSITION:
The Instruction and Research Services Librarian is primarily responsible for planning, developing, and delivering library instruction and research support for students, faculty, and staff of Bemidji State University, as well as those professional duties performed by all library faculty. In addition, the Instruction and Research Services Librarian will be responsible for overseeing A. C. Clark Library’s research services, and coordinating library outreach and assessment activities. The successful candidate will be a motivated, team-oriented individual with a broad experience of academic librarianship, information literacy, and pedagogical best practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, design, and deliver library instruction sessions, and develop instructional content.
  • Coordinate the library’s research services, including general oversight of the reference desk, scheduling reference hours, and facilitating the development of the reference collection.
  • Provide outreach to academic departments and the University as a whole to promote library resources and services, and to identify and develop partnerships where the library can support the educational and scholarly needs of Bemidji State University students and faculty.
  • Coordinate the assessment of the library and its services, including but not limited to: administering user-centered assessments, and gathering and analyzing library data in support of library planning.
  • Participate in reference, instruction, and collection development through departmental liaison duties.
  • Participate in library governance.
  • Participate in University-wide collegial involvement and professional activities, as identified in the IFO/MnSCU Master Agreement.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum:

  • Master of Library and Information Science or Master of Library Science from an ALA-accredited program (second Master’s degree in a subject specialty required for tenure).
  • Two (2) years of professional experience in an academic library.
  • Experience planning and teaching information literacy sessions.
  • Experience providing reference and research services in an academic library.
  • Knowledge of teaching theories and information literacy standards and practices.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively to meet department goals.

Preferred:

  • The applicant should demonstrate a knowledge of and interest in diverse cultures and populations.
  • Experience creating instructional content.
  • Experience with library promotion and outreach.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with library assessment.
  • Experience with Ex Libris Aleph or Alma.
  • Proven ability to successfully provide leadership and/or work direction for workflow and project management.
