POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Medtronic Knowledge Center seeks a Processing Archivist to coordinate the intake, processing, and ongoing maintenance of our medical device and corporate record collections. The ideal candidate will have archival processing and project management experience, strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills, and the ability to think strategically about the description and management of the collections. This role will provide numerous opportunities for individual project work with potential flexibility into other information or knowledge management roles. It is a temporary, full time, competitively paid position requiring availability during the M- F workday, starting in November 2018, ending in December 2019, with potential for longer term employment. This is a great opportunity to gain library experience in a corporate knowledge center.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work with off-site storage vendor to coordinate the transfer of materials to our office for rehousing and description.
• Assist with the arrangement of the collection and implementation of an archival management system.
• Assess and process accessions as well as create records for existing materials in collection management system.
• Create and publish finding aids with historical and contextual notes.
• Assess physical condition of the collection and identify conservation needs.
• Take photographs of artifacts, scan records, and manage a digital asset management system.
• Provide work direction for volunteers and retirees.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Knowledge of current Archival best practices and standards
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s Degree or Associates Degree

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Master of Library and Information Science degree in process or complete
• Experience arranging, describing, and preserving physical and digital collections
• Experience with archival management software
• Good judgment, problem solving, and analytical skills
• Ability to prioritize tasks and maintain accurate records
• Strong organizational skills
• Evidence of effective project planning, management, and completion
• Experience working with and training volunteers
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
• Evidence of strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Experience working in a medical or technical environment
• Must be comfortable with medical terminology and willing to learn company history and products

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to be independently mobile. The employee is also required to interact with a computer and communicate with peers and co-workers.
• Extended periods of time doing computer-based work.
• Ability to handle and safely move carts, dollies, and book/flatbed trucks loaded up to 100 pounds.
• Lift and carry boxes or materials weighing up to 40 pounds, climb and reach on step stools and rolling ladders, assemble and adjust shelving/storage units.
• Working conditions will likely include some exposure to dust.
