Library and Archival Assistant Position

The Stearns History Museum located in St. Cloud, Minnesota is seeking a part-time Library and Archival Assistant to work in its Research Center. The work schedule is Saturdays with some additional week-day opportunities available totaling up to 12 hours.

Position Summary: The Library and Archival Assistant works with other Research Center staff to manage and preserve the Stearns History Museum’s archival collections. In addition, the position is a contact point with patrons including researchers, genealogists, staff members, students, professionals and interested community members. A broad spectrum of knowledge in serving this diverse group is important.

Job duties include: assisting patrons with research inquiries, preparing finding aids for archival records, assisting in ongoing Research Center and other Museum related projects, and processing incoming materials for archival files.

The successful candidate will have excellent research and computer skills, knowledge of using databases and genealogical methods, and a background in local/Minnesota history. In addition, the candidate should give high priority for exceptional customer service, an ability to work independently or with a group, multi-tasking, and excellent communication skills. Preferred candidates should have a BA/MA degree in history or library science.
