The Minnesota State Law Library is pleased to announce an opening for an Outreach Librarian. This is a newly-created, permanent full time position performing professional library work. This person will be responsible for increasing the law library’s outreach and collaboration with stakeholders and diverse prospective library users. The goal of library outreach is to connect with the community in a meaningful way that raises awareness of the law library and encourages future interactions with the library. The Outreach Librarian reports directly to the State Law Librarian and works collegially with all staff.

Example of Duties:

  • Develop and implement outreach programs and promotional materials.
  • Coordinate library’s self-help clinics, CLE offerings, and special events.
  • Plan, coordinate and present training for attorneys, students, librarians, and the general public.
  • Manage the compilation of the law library’s newsletter.
  • Provide reference desk service one shift per week.
  • Serve as a liaison to professional associations and other organizations.
  • Plan and coordinate exhibits in law library.
  • Work on special projects, as needed.
  • May be required to attend community events outside of regular business hours.
  • Some occasional travel outside of the metro area may be required.

Typical Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited school (or enrollment in a program) is required.
  • Experience teaching and/or presenting at a professional level is required.
  • At least 2 years of legal research experience is required.
  • Juris Doctorate strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in a law library strongly preferred.
  • Reference experience, particularly legal reference is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with design software is helpful.

SALARY RANGE & BENEFITS: $46,792 – $72,620 annually
