The University of Jamestown is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Research and Instruction Librarian who will develop, coordinate, and deliver information literacy instruction, lead the libraries’ research help and outreach efforts, and support the university community’s academic and research needs. The successful candidate will be a dynamic and flexible individual who enjoys building relationships with students, faculty, and staff. This full-time, 12-month role holds faculty status (Instructor or Assistant Professor), reports to the Director of Libraries, and is located in Jamestown, ND. One evening a week (6pm-10pm, during the school year only) and occasional travel to the University of Jamestown’s Fargo, ND, site will be required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participates in the UJ Libraries’ information literacy instruction program including
- Developing and delivering information literacy instruction sessions and workshops to students and faculty.
- Collaborating with faculty to integrate information literacy into the curriculum.
- Teaching sections of the library’s 1-credit research skills course, either in-person or online.
- Provides research help and reference services to the UJ community, especially students and faculty
- Creates and maintains online guides, tutorials, and other instructional materials.
- Supports the libraries’ outreach and engagement efforts, including
- Maintaining the libraries’ online presence through the website, social media accounts, and other avenues as suited.
- Creating, promoting, and running events in the library or around campus.
Other Duties:
- Assists with managing and troubleshooting access to the libraries’ digital resources, including enhancing the usability and user experience of search tools and digital resources.
- Collaborates with faculty and instructional designers to support the use of open educational resources.
- Participates in university committees and shared governance as well as regional and/or national professional activities.
- Contributes to library assessment and reporting initiatives.
Job Requirements:
The appointed individual will have:
- An MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA accredited program (completed prior to start date).
- Ability to work independently and effectively across organizational lines and in collaboration with a variety of individuals and groups to complete projects and resolve problems.
- Ability to provide one-on-one or group training and instruction on processes to individuals or groups.
- Initiative, flexibility, and a strong service orientation.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Effective communication, interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Experience/Qualifications:
- Academic library experience.
- Experience working with Ex Libris’ Alma/Primo and Springshare products.
- Experience providing information literacy instruction and research support to online students.
- Experience providing general reference services to a range of academic fields.
