Job Summary
The Public Services Manager performs professional and supervisory library work involving the management of day-to-day activities related to the circulation of library materials, provision of computer support to students and others, and access to library services at Metropolitan State University. The position provides supervision of classified library staff (library technicians, computer lab assistants, and customer service specialist). The position fills in in other aspects of library operations to ensure their smooth operation.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
The following qualifications are required of all applicants seeking consideration for this position. Only applicants whose application materials clearly demonstrate fulfillment of each of these minimum qualifications will be considered for the position:

• Master’s in library science or an equivalent degree
• Experience in library operations, e.g. reference, user education, circulation, inter-library loan, information commons (IT help desk), and reserves.
• Experience in using an integrated library system
• 2 years of experience supervising full-time library staff
• Experience successfully managing diverse teams or with diverse populations
• Strong communication skills
• Strong collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in an academic library
• Experience with cataloguing
• Experience managing library communications
• Experience working in a collective bargaining environment

Physical Requirements
This position requires occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as file folders, ledgers, and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.

The School/Academic Department: Library and Information Services exists to fulfill the information needs and foster the intellectual growth of the Metropolitan State University community. The library serves the students of Metropolitan State University, as well as community patrons from the surrounding neighborhood. The library and learning center resources cover two floors of the building, and houses the university’s print collection, as well as a large information commons space on the first floor. The library and learning center is a space shared in a partnership between Metropolitan State and St. Paul Public Library. The two libraries frequently plan programs or host events together, to support academic learning and community engagement.
