DESCRIPTION: The Minnesota State Law Library is pleased to announce an opening for a Technical Services Librarian. This is a permanent full time position performing professional library work. Work involves responsibility for performing a wide range of professional library tasks and may involve providing work direction to paraprofessionals, interns or volunteers. Work is performed independently under the general supervision of a Library Division Supervisor.
Example of Duties:
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Accurately catalog, classify and assign appropriate subject headings to materials in the library’s Aleph library system and OCLC.
- Catalog materials for seven county law libraries.
- Create original catalog records.
- Catalog clean-up in preparation for a systems migration.
- Provide reference desk service one 4 hour shift per week.
- Maintain knowledge of current issues and trends in cataloging standards and automation.
- Work on special projects, as needed.
Typical Qualifications:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Experience cataloging materials in multiple formats
- Self-motivated and detail-orientated
- Ability to prioritize, manage multiple projects effectively and efficiently, strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Strong customer-service focus
- Positive attitude
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and with a diverse group of patrons
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited school is required.
- At least 2 years of experience with original cataloging is required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of LCSH, LCC, OCLC, MARC and RDA is required.
- Experience cataloging legal materials is preferred.
- Experience working in a law library is preferred.
- Reference experience, particularly legal reference, is preferred.
- Experience participating in a library system migration is helpful.
Supplemental Information:
SALARY RANGE & BENEFITS: $46,612 – $72,620 annually
