Job Description:
Under the general direction of the Library Director, the Student Success Librarian provides overall leadership, direction, and assessment of the Library’s student success initiatives. This position collaborates with librarians, faculty, and other campus partners to develop, support, and assess library services and programs that foster student success, recruitment, and retention. The Student Success Librarian serves as liaison to a number of academic departments, participates actively in the provision and assessment of research services, ensures a consistently high level of service quality to both local and remote users, and builds strong working relationships with internal and external partners. This position establishes and maintains positive working relationships with supervisors, colleagues, and subordinates throughout Lindell Library, Augsburg University, and the broader academic library community.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Student Success
• Provides overall leadership and direction for Lindell Library’s student success initiatives.
• Leads the development of a multi-layered library instruction program designed to meet the learning needs of a broadly diverse student body.
• Develops and delivers instructional programs and learning objects in a variety of formats for users at Augsburg’s Minneapolis, St. Paul, Rochester, and international locations.
• Coordinates assessment of Lindell Library’s student success initiatives and participates in university-wide assessment initiatives.
• Collaborates with faculty and librarians to integrate information literacy and digital literacy concepts into the curriculum.
• Cultivates strong working relationships with other units in support of student success, such as the CLASS office for students with disabilities, Trio/SSS, the Strommen Center for Meaningful Work, and Multicultural Student Services.
• Fosters awareness about ways the library can serve as an essential partner in facilitating student success.
• Maintains awareness of and advises librarians on best practices related to student success, library instruction, and assessment.
Research Services
• Serves as liaison to a number of academic departments and develops strong working relationships with faculty, students, and staff in assigned departments.
• Promotes library services and collections.
• Provides in-depth reference services as well as individual and group consultations in designated subject areas.
• Creates and maintains appropriate online research guides.
• Develops and maintains collections to support the research, teaching, and learning needs of the Augsburg University community; actively participates in collection management projects such as serials cancellation or weeding.
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution by start of appointment.
• Demonstrated experience, either on the job or through graduate level coursework, designing instructional content with defined learning outcomes.
• Familiarity with assessment practices and methodologies in libraries.
• Knowledge of trends, methods, and best practices in student engagement and success.
• Commitment to diversity and inclusion; demonstrated experience working with users of all ages and from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and both oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse work environment.
• Ability to be attentive to details, be accurate, be precise.
• Ability to lead/teach and mentor others.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment; and work independently with little supervision.
• Ability to reason/analyze; maintain confidentiality; and demonstrate patience, understanding.
• Ability to show initiative; organize workflow; manage one or more projects; and handle frequent interruptions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Additional advanced degree in a subject discipline.
• Previous experience teaching a credit-bearing information literacy course.
• Familiarity with SpringShare tools such as LibGuides and LibAnswers.
• Demonstrated experience, either on the job or through graduate level coursework, with assessment of library instructional programs and services
