SALARY:    $19.90 hourly minimum

STATUS & HOURS:    Full-time, regular (approximately 2,088 annual hours) position. Approximately 40 hours per week.  Scheduling is based on site hours of operation. Must be available to work a varied schedule, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

BENEFITS:     Eligible to participate in the State Employee Group Insurance Program and a retirement program with employer contribution.  Generous vacation and sick time accruals with additional paid holidays.

DESCRIPTION:  This position exists to provide a high level of leadership and customer service in supporting the day-to-day retail operations of the Mille Lacs Indian Museum Trading Post.

SUMMARY OF WORK:  1) Assist in daily operations of the museum store with an advanced knowledge of retail, data systems, and community relationships; 2) Act as a cultural liaison to all visitors while offering a high level of customer service and engaging with community members respectfully; and 3) Assist the Associate Retail Buyer with online store operations, sales, and order fulfillment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Experience leading store operations in a retail environment.

  • Experience working within Native American community settings.

  • Ability to work a varied and flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.

  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds; 50 pounds with a team lift.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time on the sales floor.

  • Ability to bend, crouch, kneel to move merchandise and perform light cleaning duties.

  • Ability and willingness to climb a ladder to reach the top of display shelves.

DEMONSTRATED SKILLS IN:

  • Customer service and interpersonal communications skills sufficient to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

  • Ability to lead a team effectively with clear expectations and positive reinforcement.

  • Thinking imaginatively and problem solving.

  • Multitasking, working effectively under pressure to meet deadlines, prioritizing and adapting to changing priorities.

  • Communicating clearly and accurately both orally and in writing.

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with a demonstrated results orientation.

  • Record keeping skills sufficient to maintain thorough and accurate records.

  • Analyzing data, making recommendations and preparing summary reports.

  • Computer skills and technical proficiency.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe history and culture.

  • Native American history and culture with an emphasis on Ojibwe and Dakota tribes.

  • Native American arts and crafts material culture with an emphasis on Ojibwe and Dakota tribes

  • MNHS mission statement and membership program.

  • Basic retail operations

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of Mille Lacs Indian Museum programs.

  • Experience with creating Native arts and crafts.

  • Creativity and artistic ability.

  • Experience using Shopify.

  • Experience providing lead work direction to staff.
