SALARY:    $18.95 hourly minimum

STATUS & HOURS:    Full-time, regular (approximately 2,088 annual hours) position.

DESCRIPTION:  This position directly supports facilities management and operations of the Minnesota History Center (MHC) building and grounds on the State of Minnesota Capitol Complex in downtown St. Paul. The Mailroom and Loading Dock Coordinator advocates for and contributes to the Minnesota Historical Society’s (MNHS) mission by overseeing an essential business function and providing exemplary customer service to both internal and external contacts. This position will coordinate mailroom and loading dock operations and a variety of other related processes. Additionally, the position will provide direct support and execution of MHC Facilities Management functions as directed, all in support of an inclusive and positive environment, both for the MNHS workforce and for the community.

SUMMARY OF WORK:  1) Manage all mailroom activities to ensure successful receipt, delivery, documentation, and shipping of all incoming and outgoing mail, packages, and other business deliveries; 2) Oversee all loading dock operations, including maintaining equipment, monitoring parking and vendor/contractor entry, to ensure a secured and safe environment; and 3) Provide direct support and execution of MHC Facilities Management functions as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two years of experience in a mailroom, shipping and receiving environment, or related industry.

  • Ability to work while standing or walking for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to regularly lift and carry packages weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to perform manual tasks such as sorting mail, assembling cardboard boxes, packing and labeling orders for shipment, and operating powered lift equipment. Work may include reaching with hands and arms; climbing or balancing; turning, twisting, or bending at the waist; stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; ability to hear and smell to perform safety aspects of the position.

  • Valid driver’s license.

DEMONSTRATED SKILLS IN:

  • Creative problem solving.

  • Performing tasks independently with frequent interruptions.

  • Punctuality.

  • Strong attention to accuracy and detail.

  • Creating effective work products in GSuite applications (Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Sheets, Sites).

  • Effective and inclusive verbal communications with a diverse group of users including museum visitors, vendors and contractors, drivers, and staff and volunteers.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Knowledge of emergency response procedures for hazardous mail or packages.

  • Mailing and shipping industry best practices.

  • Applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, regulations, codes, and/or statutes.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful completion of a two year post-secondary program or higher.

  • Proficiency with Pitney Bowes postage meter and Pitney Bowes shipping applications.

  • Experience working with private or confidential data.

  • Ability to identify suspicious or hazardous mail or packages.

  • OSHA 10-hour training for general industry.

  • Powered pallet jack operating certification.

  • Aerial and scissor lift operating certification.
