Job Summary
Create and sustain access to libraries’ resources; build and manage the student worker team in Public Services (Circulation).

Responsibilities

• Manage, supervise, and mentor a team of student public services assistants for BUL and BSSP libraries’ circulation services (including hiring, design and implement training, scheduling, advising, and evaluation).
• Ensure provision of sustainable service to users in both Saint Paul libraries regarding circulation issues (e.g. crafting and evaluation of policies re: missing items, uniform strategies and procedures for problem resolution, billing, reconciliation etc. within libraries’ integrated budget); create and implement the libraries’ reserve collections.
• Develop, maintain and deploy technology & media equipment (purchasing, cataloging, packaging, usage policies, communication with departments, troubleshooting, and replacement as needed).
• Liaison with other library departments on collaborative projects (library system, strategic planning, marketing, etc.)

Required Skills
• Proven skills in serving the public, including the ability to communicate effectively with diverse constituencies including students, staff, faculty, and visitors.
• Demonstrated aptitude for problem resolution
• Experience with current technology (e.g. laptop upgrades, wifi connectivity, printing issues, troubleshooting mobile devices, conversant with selection and deployment of equipment and software for classrooms and instructional technology; working familiarity with with Windows and Macintosh operating systems and related software (Google Apps, design programs, etc.)
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills; ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and foster collegiality, attention to detail, and demonstrated strong service orientation are essential.
• Ability to organize, prioritize, and handle multiple projects concurrently.
• Proven ability to engage in the design, development and periodic review of workflows.
• Knowledge of trends and services in academic libraries that support student success.
• Strong mentoring and managing skills.

Required Experience
3+ years supervisory experience in an academic library required, preferably including circulation and access.
Familiarity with drafting, implementation, and periodic review of policies for providing sustainable patron access to resources in multiple formats including:
– electronic
– print
– multimedia
– instructional technology
– etc.

Required Education
Bachelor’s degree required; coursework in a graduate Library & Information Science program preferred.

Additional Information
Must be able to sit and work at a computer workstation for long periods of time; able to move around the library to assist patrons and handle materials; lift and carry items up to 20 lbs.

1.00 FTE, 12-month position. Work is conducted mostly during daytime Monday-Friday. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
