Job Summary

ON-CALL POSITION – HOURS MAY VARY

Provides professional information services; oversees a specific branch or program function in the library; assists in planning, coordination, and delivery of library programs, services, and/or projects. Primary responsibilities fulfilled at information desk that serves customers of all ages; may make work assignments to library associates, aides, and volunteers. This position is on-call; hours and location of work will vary to best serve the needs of the library customers.

Essential Duties
• Provides information services, including research assistance, readers’ advisory, chat reference, and training.
• Welcomes customers to the library by making eye contact, smiling, and greeting the customer
• Responds to customer concerns and disputes; resolves issues if possible, or refers to supervisor
• Performs customer account tasks that may include account registration, basic circulation functions, placing holds and interlibrary loan requests, and accepting payment and making change
• Markets and promotes library programs and services through conversation with customers
• Assists in planning, coordination, and delivery of library programs
• Represents library at county, city, school, and/or community events; may serve as liaison to local Friends of the Library
• Provides work direction to staff and volunteers; serves as lead worker in the absence of the Branch Manager or designee
• Supports and trains new hires, substitutes, and volunteers as directed
• May host Library Board meetings as directed
• Works in all branches of the Library system as the needs of service dictate.
• Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

Must work the days and hours necessary to perform all assigned responsibilities and tasks, including evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays. Must be available (especially during regular business hours or shifts) to communicate with subordinates, supervisors, customers, vendors, and any other person or organization with whom interaction is required to accomplish work and employer goals.

Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s degree -OR- 2 years of public library experience. MLS and broad-based public library experience preferred. Excellent interpersonal communication, customer service and problem-solving skills are needed.

Selection for this position will be based on a minimum qualifications screening and rating of training and experience. Top candidates will be forwarded to the hiring manager or supervisor for consideration for interview and/or additional assessments. Final selection will include a background check and approval by the County Board.
