Qualifications

Required:
• American Library Association accredited Master’s degree in Library/Information Science or equivalent combination of advanced degree and relevant experience.
• Degree in Music.
• Proven ability to teach, with an understanding of instructional design principles and active learning techniques.
• Knowledge of music research practices and research management of music materials in multiple formats.
• Established commitment to supporting a diverse environment.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and colleagues in a rapidly changing and research-intensive environment.

Preferred:
• Advanced degree or significant graduate-level coursework in a field of music.
• Experience working as a liaison librarian in an academic research library, particularly supporting music research.
• Experience developing and managing partnerships with academic departments and external communities.
• Evidence of program development or project management skills.
• Facility with technology and its applications in academic contexts.
• Demonstrated involvement in professional activities, including evidence of ability to contribute to librarianship, research, and service as well as capacity for leadership within the profession.

About the Job
The University of Minnesota Libraries invites applications for a collaborative and innovative Music Librarian. We seek applicants who are excited about the opportunity to be part of the University Libraries’ award-winning, innovative models of library service. The Music Librarian will work with students, faculty, and staff of the School of Music. Liaison librarians combine skills in outreach, teaching, technology, and collection development and management with their knowledge of scholarly practices in assigned disciplines to partner with academic departments and provide expert service. This position has a particular emphasis on integrating critical inquiry skills in the School of Music curriculum. The successful candidate will also work with the School of Music to foster partnerships with the Twin Cities music community.

This position is part of the Arts & Humanities (A&H) department, one of six departments that comprise the University Libraries’ Research and Learning Division, and reports to the Arts & Humanities Director. Our culture is deeply collaborative, and we rely on the diverse expertise of library staff to work on strategic initiatives and service development. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in cross-departmental and cross-divisional groups that tackle evolving information challenges.

The individual will also contribute to the knowledge base of the profession through research, publication, and professional engagement, as they work toward continuous appointment status.

Responsibilities:
• Develop strong relationships with the School of Music, identifying opportunities for deeper partnerships.
• Integrate information literacy and other research skills in the School of Music curriculum, including teaching a credit-bearing course in music research.
• Actively curate and manage a collection that meets the research needs of the campus community and evolves over time, balancing local and collective efforts.
• Connect scholars at all levels with the expertise they need to be more effective researchers through strong outreach, research consultations, and excellence in teaching.
• Support the full lifecycle of student and faculty research through connecting scholars with information on researcher identity and impact management; research dissemination options; research material management; open access; and copyright.
• In conjunction with the Access and Information Services Department, shape the Music Library to be a hub of activity and resources for music researchers in the Twin Cities.
• Contribute to the goals and strategic initiatives of the Libraries through leadership of and/or active participation in committees.
• Add to professional scholarship through research.

This is a full-time, 12-month, continuous-appointment track, academic professional position with probationary appointment at the Assistant or Associate Librarian level. The Libraries offer a competitive salary commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits and substantial moving allowance.
