SALARY:    $15.38 hourly minimum

STATUS & HOURS:    Part-time, (approximately 12-30 hours per week) temporary position through April 2, 2022.  Must be able to work a varied schedule of 2-5 shifts a week on Wednesday-Sundays including Thursday evenings and occasional special events during the evening.

BENEFITS:     Eligible to participate in a retirement program with employer contribution.  Generous vacation and sick time accruals. *Some positions may be eligible to participate in the State Employee Group Insurance Program, depending on the average number of hours worked per week throughout the appointment.

TRAINING:    Required training for this position will take place on Thursday, October 13th from 4:00pm-8:00pm; Saturday, October 15th from 9:00am-4:00pm; and Monday, October 17th from 9:00am-4:00pm.

DESCRIPTION:  This position exists to staff Sherlock Holmes: The Exhibition. This position will conduct educational programs that serve diverse audiences, provide customer service and security to guests of the History Center Museum, and assist in the daily operations of the museum.

SUMMARY OF WORK:  1) Conduct interpretive programs within museum exhibits; and support ongoing museum operations such as maintenance, safety, and cleaning; 2) Create a welcoming educational environment in the History Center exhibits by actively utilizing a variety of interpretive techniques and delivering excellent customer service; and 3) Study and master program and exhibit related historical materials.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.
  • Familiarity with issues of cultural diversity.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to provide consistent, high quality customer service.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism in demeanor and appearance.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and contribute positively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to listen to the public and be responsive to inquiries and comments.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply a wide variety of interpretive techniques
  • Must be able to work a varied schedule of 2-5 shifts a week on Wednesday-Sundays including Thursday evenings and occasional special events on Mondays, Tuesdays and other evenings.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, crouch, kneel push, and pull
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with Minnesota history.

  • Familiarity with History Center interpretive programs and exhibits.

  • Experience working with children in an educational environment.

  • Experience in museum interpretation, theater or storytelling.

  • Experience working with diverse audiences of varying cultural backgrounds, ages, and abilities.
