Salary/Status:      DOQ/41 weeks

Purpose: Responsible for meeting the needs of children by helping them develop an interest in books and reading

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Researches available videos, books and other resource materials for applicability and value to school
• Orders supplies and resource materials and obtains appropriate authorizing signatures
• Conducts surveys of students and staff regarding desired topic areas and special requests
• Ensures that recent books are available which emphasize Ojibwe/Native American issues, traditions, values, culture, etc.
• Affixes labels, bar codes, and sign-out cards to reading materials; enters catalog information into computer; appropriately shelves by grade level and content
• Covers books with plastic, reinforces book spines and repairs damaged books
• Checks-out books and videos to staff and students
• Selects and reads books to elementary school children on a weekly basis
• Educates students and staff to library set-up, resources, reference materials and library procedures. Teaches students to develop research skills
• Maintains the bulletin boards with special interests educational, seasonal and cultural themes
• Maintains the neat appearance and orderliness of the library
• Schedules and coordinates the process for disposing of old reading materials
• Provides work direction and supervises staff
• Supports Open Houses, school sponsored literacy activities and parent literacy involvement opportunities
• Ability to hookup projectors, large screen TV’s and speakers / speakerphones to laptops.
• Experience with using Skype, or other video conferencing software is preferred; but not required.
• Ability to assist students getting logged on to the computer stations and into various programs, including:  Learning to type software, basic word processing and internet access to the library home page / search portals for research.
• Ability to maintain the library web page and keep the links to other resources current.
• Maintaining checkout of Nooks, iPads, Tablets and Laptops on the library cart and ensuring that devices are placed on chargers after school each day.
• Working with on-staff grant writer on various library grants; (keeping track of electronically licensed books/ordering new books for the digital devices that can display them.
• Performs all other duties as assigned within reason.

Qualifications:
• State certified teaching degree
• Bachelor of Science degree
• 2+ years practical library experience
• Must be flexible, patient, creative and organized

Preferred Qualifications:
• Library Certification (or willingness to apply for a certification)

Physical Requirements:
• Subject to internal working conditions, non-smoking environment.
