Job Summary
This position exists to manage the Faribault library. This position: manages and handles the processing of all materials, organizes and administers the library materials, is responsible for the daily operations of the Library (supervise and manage work study students, circulate materials, assist patrons), manages and handles all interlibrary loan requests, and performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESULTS
A. Daily Operations and Circulation of Materials
1. Circulate materials using the integrated library system (ILS)
• Check materials in and out
• Renew materials
• Fill hold requests
2. Assist students, faculty, staff, and community patrons in locating materials
• Locate materials in online catalog and in databases
• Locate materials on the shelves
• Locate materials on the Internet
3. Add/edit patrons to enable circulation of materials
• Create picture ID cards for students and employees
• Enter/edit patron information in ILS
• Issue barcodes
4. Shelve materials
• Shelve collections using the Library of Congress system
• Manage reserve shelf
5. Manage overdue materials
• Email notices to patrons
• Collect fees for lost materials (work with bookstore and business office)
• Block delinquent patrons and unblock as needed (work with student affairs)
6. Basic support of ITV classes
• Communicate with ITV instructors as needed
• Distribute/collect materials as needed
• Assist IT Support with basic troubleshooting of ITV systems
7. Maintain general order of the Library and adjoined Computer Lab
• Ensure adherence to library use policies
• Keep facility in order (may require communication with custodians and/or facilities workers)
• Order supplies as needed

B. Collection Acquisition and Maintenance
1. Review/locate materials for possible purchase
• Use review sources (including Books in Print) to locate materials
• Read reviews of materials to determine usefulness
• Forward titles for purchase consideration to Faculty Librarian
2. Process new materials
• Attach barcodes
• Stamp and label materials
• Cover materials as needed
• Shelve materials
3. Order serials for the Library and other departments as requested
• Research suppliers for best prices
• Submit orders for periodicals
4. Manage serials in ILS
• Check in new periodicals
• Handle correspondence for missing issues, double copies, etc.
• Barcode, stamp, label, and display magazines

C. Manage Interlibrary Loans (ILLs)
1. Process ILL requests from other libraries
• Use ILS to check and print requests
• Locate materials, check materials out, prepare material for delivery, send via US mail or through North Mankato courier
• Maintain communication with libraries regarding billing
2. Receive SCC materials loaned to other libraries
• Close ILL request
• Check materials in
• Reshelve library materials
3. Process borrowed ILL requests
• Print patron request
• Verify request and forward to the lending library
4. Receive borrowed materials
• Check out item to patron
• Insert date due slip
• Put on shelf to be picked up
5. Return borrowed materials
• Close ILL request
• Insert routing slip
• Send via US mail or North Mankato courier

D. Hire, train, and direct work study students
1. Interview and set schedules for work study students
2. Train work study students in the operation of the Library
3. Prepare and organize work for work study students
4. Supervise work done by work study students
5. Sign/submit work study students’ timesheets
6. Evaluate work study students’ work at least one time per semester
7. Ensure adherence to work study/student employee policies and procedures

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
Ability to:
• Apply and support detailed coding or cataloging systems sufficient to create tracking for new print and non-print library acquisitions and locate and replace existing materials.
• Operate personal computers, use various software and web-based applications, and other office equipment sufficient to locate catalog information, word-process documents, complete forms, and prepare reports.
• Communicate effectively orally and in writing sufficiently: to determine and respond to the informational needs of clients of varied educational levels and backgrounds; to train, direct and evaluate work of student clerical staff; and to assist the professional library staff to maintain the library collection according to library policy and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Supervisory Experience
• Excellent human relations and communications skills for effective interaction with students, South Central College employees, library staff, and the general public
• Procedures of various inter-library loan networks, copyright guidelines and location, and verification tools sufficient to coordinator inter-library loan activity
• Assist patrons with basic reference and library technology questions
• Ability to complete detail-oriented tasks quickly and with high degree of accuracy
• Knowledge of libraries and integrated library systems (Library of Congress, ALEPH/Alma)
