Job Summary
Inver Hills Community College is looking for an individual to provide technical assistance in the College’s Library. Under general supervision, Library Technician catalogs, files, shelves, and circulates library materials, assists library users in locating materials, and assigns work to and train student workers in order to serve library patrons in the most efficient manner.

Responsibilities:
• Catalog library materials (print and non-print) and prepare them for shelving;
• Maintain quality control of local library database;
• Interpret Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, 2nd edition(AACR2), Resource Description and Access (RDA) and other cataloging rules and policies;
• Create, maintain, and document cataloging procedures;
• Maintain and enhance the Online Catalog to keep it up-to-date and accurate;
• Process interlibrary loan requests so that patron requests for items outside regular collection are handled promptly and efficiently;
• Manage the circulation process during the summer months and act as circulation and acquisition check in backup;
• Assist library users in locating materials;
• Supervision of student workers; hiring, training, evaluating

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
• Working knowledge of library classification system(s) and standard library reference tools sufficient to assist clients in locating materials and conducting research.

Ability to:
• Apply and support detailed coding or cataloging systems sufficient to create tracking for new print and non-print library acquisitions and locate and replace existing materials.
• Operate personal computers, use various software and web-based applications, and other office equipment sufficient to locate catalog information, word-process documents, complete forms and prepare reports.
• Communicate effectively orally and in writing sufficient to determine and respond to the informational needs of clients of varied educational levels and backgrounds; to train, direct and evaluate work of student clerical staff; and to assist the professional library staff to maintain the library collection according to library policy and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Working knowledge of MnPALS library catalog system (ALEPH, soon to be ALMA), OCLC Connexion;
• Academic library experience.
• Ability to work independently and within a team, good customer service skills.
• Well organized and efficient, attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work under stress of many users needing simultaneous assistance.
• Ability and willingness to learn new developing library operations and technologies.

In accordance with the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities (MnSCU) Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to MnSCU’s vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
