Library Media Specialist – Hmong College Prep Academy

Job Description
Primary purpose: The media specialists collaborates with classroom teachers and specialists to design and implement lessons and units of instruction which support classroom curriculum, promotes a joy of reading with students, and teaches learner skills in finding, interpreting, and applying information to help students function effectively.

Duties/Responsibilities:
· Operate specialized computer system for circulating media center materials.
· Operates and supervises the library
· Assist students with instructional tasks.
· Assist and instruct students with book selection; charge and discharge books.
· Assist students with location and use of media center materials.
· Assist in controlling status of books in circulation; check on overdue books.
· Shelve returned books; replace incorrectly shelved books; label and mend books.
· Assist with the processing of new materials.
· Circulate media center equipment and materials; operate media center equipment.
· Assist with inventory of all media center materials.
· Maintains a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all print and non-print materials.
· Schedules the use of the library for maximum accessibility to equipment, digital resources, and print materials.
· Coordinates the services of the school library through partnerships with public and state libraries.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
· Knowledge of procedures, practices and equipment of a school media center
· Ability to use computer or Chromebook to access online program and databases
· Ability to perform routine office duties and record keeping tasks
· Strong organization skills and flexibility to adjust to unforeseen circumstances
· Ability to operate date processing and audio-visual equipment
· Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students and staff.

Minimum Qualifications:
· A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Library Media Specialist and a valid Library Media Specialist license issued by the Minnesota Department of Education.
· 1-2 years of recent experience in a school library setting

Other Information: Will consider candidates who are currently working toward their Media Licensure. Transcript – Unofficial transcripts are accepted at the time of hire. You must submit official transcripts within 30 days of your start date. Formal credential evaluation is required for post-secondary education completed outside of the United States.
