The Adult Services Manager has the primary responsibility for development and implementation of a system-wide strategic plan for adult programs and services and ensuring incorporation of input from the diverse population of Dakota County. The position will work closely with the Youth Services manager to coordinate public programs for all ages including opportunities for intergenerational and multicultural programs/services. The individual will work collaboratively with Branch Managers on the implementation of the plan with County Communications to leverage traditional and social media to promote programs and services, and to leverage the use of volunteers throughout DCL. The position will market and promote library programs and services to community stakeholders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Master of Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited program.
• Five years of direct experience in Adult Services or Information Services.
• Management or Supervisory experience required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS BEYOND MINIMUM REQUIRED:
• Experience in strategic planning for library services and program delivery

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
These examples do not include all possible tasks in this work and do not limit the assignment of related tasks in any position of this classification. Regular attendance according to the position’s management approved work schedule is required for all positions.
1. Develop strategic plans for library programs and services for the adult segment of the diverse population of Dakota County.
• Identifying strengths and needs by evaluating data from a variety of sources including underrepresented populations of Dakota County.
• Assessment of progressive trends around the Country.
• Work with Branch Managers to identify community needs and opportunities and secure participation of system administrative and branch staff.
• Develop objectives and strategies, based upon the input assessment goals, that meet the challenges and opportunities identified.
2. Identify staff training to effectively implement Adult Services Programs.
• Develop a training plans that will enhance the skills of DCL staff working with adults.
• Develop communication plans and make recommendations as to DCL staff appropriateness for training opportunities.
3. Develop and direct a communications and marketing program to assist staff in communications with the public and stakeholders about library services, goals, and mission. This includes:
• Preparation of press releases, listservs, website content & articles to promote the Dakota County Library system.
• Planning, designing and following through on production of library publications and publicity of all types including extensive use of social media.
4. Implement the adult services strategic plan in conjunction with Branch Managers and materials selection staff.
5. Oversee budget and contracts for Adult Services.
6. Seek, identify and pursue grant and community funding for Adult Services programs and services.
7. Direct work of the Adult Services Section And provide supervision of professional and support staff.
8. Provide system-wide oversight for the Library’s Volunteer program.
9. Serve on Library, County, and other library and community organization, teams and committees to establish a network in an effort to build community contacts and promotion the Dakota County Library system.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is primarily sedentary; it is usually accomplished while incumbent is comfortably seated at a desk or table. Occasional physical effort that may include long periods of standing or walking during meetings and conferences away from the regular place of work. Items carried typically include light objects such as briefcases, notebooks, work papers, and data printouts.
