Responsibilities: The Library Director plans, organizes, directs, and controls all functions, operations, and activities of the Library, either directly or through senior management staff. The Director reports to the Library Board of Trustees and serves as a City Department Head for the City of Waukesha. The Director, under general direction of and within the policies set by the Library Board, is responsible for developing and presenting an operating plan, budget, and policies necessary to provide the optimal library service to community residents. The Director provides direct supervision to and management of the Assistant Director, the Head of Children’s Services, the Head of Program Development and Community Engagement, the Head of Operations, and the Administration Department. Minimum Qualifications to be considered for the position include graduation from an ALA-accredited program with a Master’s Degree in Library Science, the ability to qualify for and retain Grade 1 Wisconsin Library Certification, and a minimum of five years of library work including two years of library management experience, human resources and marketing experience; or any equivalent combination of knowledge, ability and skills as to perform the job effectively. Key knowledge, skills and abilities include a knowledge of public library organization and administration; a knowledge of library laws and regulations; the ability to hire, train, supervise and motivate library staff; the ability to prepare clear and concise reports and recommendations; the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with trustees, elected officials, staff and community groups and stakeholders; knowledge of current library technologies; strong planning, organization and executive leadership skills; and public speaking ability. Prior experience reporting to a governing Board and working in a public library are preferred qualifications.

Compensation: The position offers a hiring salary range of $95,677 – $112,420 (dependent upon experience and qualifications) and an attractive benefits package.
