The Thorson Memorial Public Library in Elbow Lake, MN, seeks an energetic and innovative leader to direct the operations of the library.  This is a full-time position that requires some evening and weekend shifts.

This position performs professional, executive, and administrative work to manage the public library services, exercises overall and direct responsibility for all library functions, programs and services, and activities including marketing.  Manages budget, administers plans and policies, and promotes the effective and efficient use of resources.

The Library Director reports to a 7-member Board of Trustees and manages the facility, a staff of 4 people (1.45 FTE), the library finances, and all aspects of operations, and attends required meetings. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work collaboratively, possess leadership skills; they must be flexible and adaptable to change; the ability to direct and motivate staff, plan organize, coordinate and implement library operations, write and manage grants, advanced oral and written communication skills, and must be self-motivated.

Qualifications:

Graduation from a four-year college or university

Necessary knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Experience in financial budgeting, ability to work with others, engage with the community, and have knowledge of community needs.
  • Tools and equipment.
  • Requires the use of the library computer system, proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, ability to maintain web page and social media content, online search skills, and experience using computers, printers, telephone, fax machine, and photocopier.
