Library Director – Douglas County Library

The Douglas County (Minnesota) seeks a motivated and effective leader to direct its public library.  The Douglas County Library, a member of the Viking Library System, is located with the County Services Center in historic downtown Alexandria.  With a population base of more than 37,000 and a registered user base of more than 20,000 cardholders, the Library circulates nearly 350,000 items each year.  An active Friends of the Library organization runs a very successful book sale each August and a used book store in the library that is open each weekday.  Financial support from the Friends help to augment a budget of over $1,000,000 from the county.  The Library has a very healthy collection development budget and a collection of more than 100,000 items.

The Douglas County Library currently has 10 full-time and 3 part-time staff members, including the director and 1 part-time, seasonal library clerk.  The Library Director reports to a library board of 6 citizen members and one county commissioner.

The Director  works closely with the County Board and a number of County departments.  The Viking Library System is a federated library system with a shared catalog, delivery, technology and some shared programming.

Amongst Douglas County’s lakes, roadways and bike trails are 9 cities. Compensation: The position of Library Director is a fulltime position available for immediate fill upon the county finding the ideal candidate.  The salary range of $72,696.00-$95,659.20 is based on experience.  Douglas County also offers a competitive benefit package for it’s employees including medical, life, disability, paid vacation, paid sick, and paid holidays.
