The Library Director provides leadership for the Concordia Library and its staff.  This requires an understanding of the University, its mission, vision, colleges and programs and an evaluation of resources to ensure that the needs of the students and faculty are being met.  The director oversees both operations and services, which includes:

• organizational planning and policy development
• personnel administration and staff development
• nurturing relationships, both internally and externally
• financial planning and budgeting
• data collection and report generation
• grant writing and relationship building
• ability to embrace and support the vision of Concordia University and the LCMS

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES
Provide leadership in the development, establishment, and implementation of library goals, policies, and practices; understand emerging issues in digital technology, scholarly communication, and higher education
• Recruit, mentor, and supervise a qualified staff; demonstrate a commitment to staff excellence & professional development.  Demonstrate evidence of collegial management style and the ability to build consensus.
• Develop and administer policies, procedures, for the management of the integrated library system; resource acquisitions and collection development, both print and digital; and reference & user services
• Consulting with faculty, develop and implement strategies for evaluation of resources, eliminating resources which no longer serve the user and identifying more appropriate resources for the University.
• Possess excellent communication and problem solving skills; the ability to communicate with diverse populations, the library staff and campus faculty & staff, CLIC Board and staff, CLIC committees, MINITEX, and other external community members, and various vendors, and other external community members, and various vendors
• Coordinate cooperative work with the CLIC Consortium, other libraries and institutions, the synod and synodical districts, as well as the general public
• Develop and implement the approved budget and advocate for the best possible staff and resources to serve the needs of the students and faculty
• Engage in grant writing when opportunities present

Education & Preferred Work Experience
Master’s Degree in Library & Information Science

Minimum of 10 years in an academic library setting, demonstrating progressively increasing levels of responsibility
Minimum 5 years administrative role with leadership and supervisory responsibilities for professional library staff
5 years professional experience managing a significant budget
5 years professional experience developing library policies and procedures
Professional experience managing a significant budget
Excellent time-management skills coupled with the ability to coordinate projects, resources, and collaborative effort to achieve assigned goals
Experience with automated library systems
Outstanding attention to detail
