THE POSITION
The Anoka County Library is a nimble organization that provides a wealth of resources and experiences to enrich the lives of residents. We are currently hiring a part-time Library Associate (24 hours per week) who will assist library patrons with their information and readers’ advisory needs. This position’s initial assignment will be at the Rum River Library, Anoka. The schedule will include days, evenings and weekends.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)
Delivers consistent quality customer experience; Plans, conducts and evaluates classes and training to the public in the library and in other community settings; Provides information to patrons in-person, by phone and email; Performs research activities and readers advisory; Advises patrons on appropriate materials; Advises and instructs library patrons in using technology necessary to access library resources; May participate in system-wide initiatives and programs; May perform circulation duties including checking materials in and out and dealing with special situations; May work as the person in charge of the branch or department for a limited time period.

REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, education or equivalent; one to three years of related experience in a public library; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge of: Principles of efficient and effective customer service; Current public library practices, tools, methods and procedures; Publishing trends and reader’s advisory principles; Computers, technology and electronic devices with ability to perform troubleshooting tasks to assist patrons.

Ability to: Develop, present and evaluate classes, programs and story times for all ages; thrive working in an environment with a high volume of public service to people from all cultures and age groups; demonstrate a positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers and community; creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner; multi-task and prioritize; demonstrate innovation and flexibility; use technology including email, internet, databases, social media and other software; follow written and oral directions; learn the use of an automated circulation system; handle simple monetary transactions with a high degree of accuracy, make decisions in accordance with library policies and procedures; create displays and program visuals; work independently.

Skill in: Interpersonal communication; using and assisting customers with technology; providing research assistance and instruction, readers and media advisory service to all ages; establishing and maintaining effective working relations with others; advocating for Public Library Services for families, by engaging community contacts.

Physical requirements: Requires walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, lifting up to 30 lbs., grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and standing.
