PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference will be given to candidates, who show proven ability to adapt easily to procedural changes, work with detail, work independently, good communication skills, good typing skills, and good interpersonal skills. Proven productivity and accuracy desired. Previous library experience with database searching preferred.

Service Area Overview
Resource Sharing Services is an area in which Minitex participants submit requests for returnable and non-returnable materials to the Minitex Central office located at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities campus. Staff use physical and electronic resources from the University Libraries as well as from libraries in the Minitex region to fill requests. Staff participate in outreach to interlibrary loan staff at libraries in the Minitex region to provide leadership, expertise and instruction for resource sharing functions. Resource Sharing staff continuously adapt workflow to incorporate new and emerging technologies to ensure quick and accurate services.

Primary Function
This position is in the Resource Sharing Service Area. The Library Assistant 2 is responsible for the processing of Minitex interlibrary loan requests at the Printing Services building (PS2) and Wilson Library. This employee also has bibliographic verification tasks. This employee may supervise student staff when needed.

Job Duties
Assist with the Coordination and Supervision of the Daily Operation of Processing Minitex, Documents to U, University Libraries Interlibrary Loan Requests at the Printing Services Location-PS2 and Wilson Campus Libraries (55%)
• This individual is responsible for the requests in the PS2 queue in Mira, Minitex internal requests management system to ensure requests are completed within the established timeframe.
• Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the layout at the Printing Services Building (PS2) and scope of collections. Report any changes to Library Manager.
• Monitor the PS2 queue and request excel spreadsheet to ensure all requests are done.
• Maintain the scanner, printer, bus pass and other supplies at PS2.
• Work with Minitex Delivery staff to ensure the pickup time matches our processing time and inform Delivery staff of any changes.
• Use existing email lists to inform internal and external staff of any changes as needed.
• Update the status of Minitex, DTU loans on site.
• Scan items on site and update records as needed.
• Troubleshoot problems occurring with electronic delivery and transmission with appropriate Electronic delivery and Minitex IT staff.
• Sort items for University Library patrons and route materials in a timely manner.
• Communicate with participating libraries using established processes within Mira and other ILS systems.
• Hire, train student for the re-shelving and updating of materials at PS2.
• Maintain a working knowledge of the Wilson campus site and assist in request processing as needed.
• Keep abreast of the latest enhancements within Mira to ensure existing processes are still valid. Work collaboratively with Lead worker and Library Manager to ensure processes support the latest enhancements. Provide suggestions for change when appropriate.

Responsible for the Verification of Minitex Interlibrary Loan Requests in Mira, Minitex Internal Request Management System (35%)
• Search WorldShare Discovery and other tools as needed to verify requests within Mira.
• Refer verified requests when appropriate to OCLC within Mira.
• Search the University of Minnesota library databases to identify internet resource materials. Check item’s availability and route to appropriate Mira queues.
• Update the status of requests to reflect current status in various ILS as needed.
• Monitor various verification queues to ensure requests are processed in the most efficient manner.
• Review requests checked in WorldShare to determine further processing steps and route requests accordingly.
• Determine appropriate handling of unverified or problem requests. Specify or check bibliographic checklist tools to be used.
• Communicate with participating libraries using established processes within Mira and other ILS systems.
• Assist in the screening, hiring and training of student staff.
• Serve as a shift lead and answer questions for student staff.
• Identify libraries with recurring citation, verification, locations or format errors and notify Lead worker and or Library Manager.
• Maintain current written procedures for request processing and alert staff when changes occur.
• Keep abreast of the latest enhancements within Mira to ensure existing processes are still valid. Work collaboratively with Lead worker and Library Manager to ensure processes support the latest enhancements. Provide suggestions for change when appropriate.

Enhance the Overall Effectiveness of Resource Sharing and Minitex Services (10%)
• Actively and positively participate in Resource Sharing and office wide meetings with an eye towards providing great internal and external customer services.
• Establish and maintain positive relationships with co-workers in Resource Sharing, Minitex, University Library staff and Minitex participating Library staff.
• Attend workshops and conferences as appropriate, share information learned with Minitex staff using appropriate communication methods.
• Work closely with Library Manager and co-workers in Resource Sharing to insure high level of efficiency and quality work.
• Provide assistance when appropriate to other Library Assistants.
• Work with various groups and task teams focusing on office-wide and or organizational topics.
