Essential Functions

1. PROVIDE REFERENCE AND INFORMATION SERVICES (50%)
Provide reference and information assistance to Library users and Arboretum staff at the Andersen Horticultural Library reference desk, utilizing the knowledge of selected library and Minnesota Landscape Arboretum procedures, tools, and facilities. Answer in-person, telephone, and e-mail queries, referring more specialized queries to reference librarian, Arboretum staff, or other expert.

2. OUTREACH & PROGRAMMING (45%)
Work with the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum Marketing team and University Libraries’ Communications team to promote AHL, its resources, services, and programming in a variety of ways, including social media (blog, Pinterest, Instagram, etc). Add “Featured from the Collection” and similar pieces to the website and to the Friends Newsletter (select item, basic research, write, select visuals). Create new programming. Develop collaborative relationships and projects with AHL and Arboretum staff, Friends groups, local libraries, garden groups, book groups, etc. to promote AHL. Maintain

Non-­‐Essential Functions

1. MANAGE THE PHYSICAL SPACE (2.5%)
Keep the Library attractive, clean, and well-organized. Ensure prompt and accurate shelving of books. Liaise with Arboretum facilities staff as needed.

2. VOLUNTEER COORDINATION/SUPERVISION (2.5%)
Organize and assign tasks for some AHL volunteers. Act as a liaison; communicate, teach, coordinate, and supervise the volunteers’ work. Assist in handling book donation drop-offs for the annual Friends of AHL book sale.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
• Two (2) years of college coursework and/or relevant library experience.
• Experience or coursework related to gardening, horticulture, or plant sciences.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lift 40 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications
• Library reference desk or customer service experience.
• Experience working with social media.
• Strong aptitude with computers and software.
• Experience developing outreach/promotional efforts.
• Ability to work independently and to work effectively as a team member.
