General Description
Performs intermediate administrative support work assisting with general circulation desk activities, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Assistant Library Director.

Essential Functions of the Job / Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
• Answer incoming telephone calls and route callers to appropriate library department.
• Take messages for staff members who are not available.
• Page library patrons in the building who have incoming calls.
• Check in and out books and other library materials.
• Compute and collect fines for overdue library materials.
• Register new borrowers, issue borrower cards and renew library cards.
• Receive and place holds for library materials that are in circulation.
• Schedule booking of equipment and meeting room.
• Receive and route incoming mail.
• Monitor use of materials and equipment.
• Process new materials.
• Repair materials.
• Replace worn and damaged materials with donated materials.
• Order supplies.
• Position will require occasionally working Saturdays and evenings.
• Perform other related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA’s)
• Ability to deal effectively with members of the public.
• Knowledge and ability to use a computer and software associated with library circulation/catalog operations.
• Knowledge of and ability to perform filing duties with accuracy and speed.
• Knowledge of and ability to perform basic office and clerical activities.
• Ability to perform basic mathematic operations and to handle cash.

Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED and minimal experience in an office setting or library.

Hours are Monday from 4 – 8 p.m., Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. and every fourth Saturday from 8/9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Physical Requirements
This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires walking, sitting and speaking or hearing and occasionally requires standing, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting; work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus and depth perception; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts and using of measuring devices; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a quiet location (e.g. library, private offices).
