Duties:
The Librarian plans, develops, implements, evaluates, and revises the Patient Education Center operations. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
• Establishes and recommends the scope and extent of programs and services to be offered.
• Establishes, implements, reviews and revises program guidelines, policies, and operating procedures.
• Develops and implements corrective measures and new procedures to improve and/or expand services.
• Investigates and implements new technologies for implementation in the Patient Education Library.
• Pursues opportunities for grants and presents opportunities for Veterans Service Organizations (in collaboration with Voluntary Services) for resources to support special projects in the Patient Education Center.
• Answers a wide range of complex and comprehensive reference questions utilizing a variety of reference sources and tools including providing reference services at relevant education conferences or at the point of care.
• Serves as searcher for computer literature searches, utilizing MEDLINE, CINAHL, the Internet, and other automated data systems which involve searching through and locating information contained in books, journals, and government publications.
• Conducts PEC orientation sessions for new staff, students, and interns as well as for Veteran patient and caregiver groups.
• Oversees the process of materials development from start to finish.
• Regularly reviewing the availability of commercially produced materials to assess whether or not newly available materials should replace locally developed materials.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
