Librarian – Luther Seminary

The Librarian will assist in collecting, describing, preserving, and making accessible the permanently valuable records of Luther Seminary, assisting with technical services of library collections and providing assistance to users of both library and archives collections.

You will:
• Coordinates print and electronic records management in offices on campus by implementing seminary-wide records management policies using Laserfiche electronic records management software.
• Gathers, organizes, describes vital Luther Seminary records (including faculty papers)
• Support the work of key faculty members to enhance instruction with valuable library, Special Collections and archives materials.
• Actively promotes knowledge of Luther Seminary’s heritage through displays, blogs, research guides, and events.
• Coordinates preservation and disaster planning for library and archival collections.
• Ensures quality cataloging and processing for all materials for the general and special collections in all formats, such as monographs, electronic resources, serials, and AV.
• Maintains the integrity of the online catalog by adding, editing, and deleting bibliographic, holding, item, and authority records as well as keeping statistics.
• Shares in the processing of gift collections to be added to the library by identifying current holdings, cataloging selected additions, and keeping statistics to assist the library and seminary relations in acknowledging the gift.
• Provides research support and instruction in the use of library and archives collections.
• Provides back up for interlibrary loan services.
• Supports serials management work.
• Prepares collection materials for the bindery and performs basic book mending and creates phase boxes for identified collection materials.
• Participates in various professional communities, such as listservs, eforums, consortial partners. And keeps current with professional literature in the field of library and information studies.

Requirements:

B. Required education and experience:
• Master’s degree in Library or Archival Science from an American Library Association accredited program, and, a
• Master’s degree in theology would be a plus.

C. Desired knowledge, skills and abilities
• Ability to apply effective time management and self-management skills adjusting priorities and workflows in a dynamic and changing environment.
• Proven ability to work in team settings and deliver excellent patron service.
• Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and implement a project.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work with many internal and external constituencies
• Knowledge of ELCA and its predecessor bodies is helpful.
• Basic reading knowledge of at least one other modern European or classical language is helpful.
• Ability to bend, stretch, lift boxes and heavy books up to 15 lbs., and maneuver full book carts.
