Education and Experience Requirement:
(The knowledge, skills, and abilities above may be acquired through, but are not limited to, the following combination of education and/or experience.) Four years of experience in professional library work, two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity in the field of specialization. Graduation from a recognized college or university with a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an accredited (ALA) school of Library Science.

Special Requirements:
Must register for Nebraska Public Librarian Certification through the Nebraska Library Commission within 30 days of the hiring date. Must complete necessary training requirements to keep certification current while employed by the Omaha Public Library. Must be able to transport oneself or coordinate transportation to various work sites.

Examination Information:
The examination will consist of a structured interview which will be scheduled at a later date. The structured interview is designed to assess job-related knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. The final eligibility list will be assembled from those candidates achieving a passing score of 60% on the structured interview (100% weight).

Salary Range:
$66,339.26 to $80,434.38 Annual

Benefits:
Forty-hour work week; twelve days of paid vacation per year for the first five years; five days of management leave per year if employed on the first day of the payroll year; sick leave and twelve paid holidays. Veteran’s Points: To claim five (5) points for Veteran’s preference, you must submit proof of service (such as a DD-214) that includes date of induction, date of honorable separation, and Social Security number. (You must have completed more than 180 consecutive days of active duty.) To receive an additional five (5) points credit for disability, you must submit proof of eligibility from Veterans Administration dated within the last 12 months. Nature of Work:
This is professional library work which involves the adult, children, or extension services (subject departments and technical processes) of the library. Work includes allocating funds, formulating policies, solving administrative problems, and recommending the hiring and firing of subordinate staff.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of professional library principles, methods, practices and materials as they relate to the field of specialization. Knowledge of library reference and research materials. Knowledge of reader interest levels, books and authors. Knowledge of effective management practices and procedures. Knowledge of acquisition procedures and the budget process. Knowledge of turn-key automation system. Ability to analyze the needs of the community and to plan, develop and conduct appropriate programs for targeted groups. Ability to analyze professional and administrative problems, make recommendations and take appropriate action. Ability to interpret library policies and objectives. Ability to operate a computer keyboard and view a computer screen to access library catalog files and other data bases. Ability to view printed text on book bindings to retrieve library materials.
