Job Summary
The eligible register developed from this posting may be used to fill future FT and PT vacancies within this classification. This position is partially grant funded for one year.

Delivers services that contribute to children’s literacy development and school readiness; models early literacy activities for parents and caregivers; supports positive parent/child interaction; and promotes healthy social-emotional development. Conducts and engages the community in fun and active opportunities for early learning across the County to build trust and develops relationships with under-represented communities, including communities of color; family, friend, and neighbor (FFN) child care settings; immigrant communities; and other groups as identified. Provides training opportunities as needed.

Essential Duties
Plans, delivers, and evaluates programs offered via the Scott County Library Readmobile, an early learning outreach vehicle designed to bring early literacy programs to children ages zero to ten and their caregivers; develops and maintains a specialized collection of materials for the Readmobile; provides direct services in English and/or a language other than English; and markets Readmobile programs to social service agencies, community organizations, child care providers, and other stakeholders.

Operates the Readmobile, Scott County’s 32-foot early learning outreach vehicle. Operation includes completing pre- and post-trip checklists, driving to and from service sites, setting up, and parking. A standard (Class D) valid driver’s license is required.

Works with Learning & Outreach team and other organizations to coordinate family outreach and engagement efforts across the County to develop and sustain relationships with under-represented communities, including communities of color, family/friend/neighbor (FFN) child care settings, immigrant communities, and other groups as identified; acts as liaison with community members, neighborhood organizations, and cultural groups helping to foster communication and support connections to resources and programming; and assists other County departments in making and sustaining relationships with under-represented communities.

Promotes opportunities for active learning in the community and builds relationships with licensed childcare providers and FFN’s to provide training opportunities for best practices in nutrition and physical activity for children prenatal through childhood. Develops a network of childcare providers and engages them in developing a model for improved early education and care for their children.

Assists with planning, coordination, and delivery of programs and projects in library settings, including the offsite summer reading program; adult, teen, and children’s programs in general; library website and social media content creation; and outreach. Recommends library service improvements.

May assist with budgets, grant applications, and advocacy for additional resources.

Develops outreach materials in multiple languages as needed.

May direct the work of staff and volunteers on specific assignments.

Attends training and conferences as required or assigned; participates on committees and teams.

Works the hours and/or shifts assigned and begins and ends work on time. Weekend and evening hours required.

Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Requires:
• Bachelor’s degree and two years related work experience** OR
• High school diploma/GED and 10 years of related work experience** OR
• High school diploma/GED plus two or more years post-secondary education and eight years of related work experience** OR
• An Associate’s degree and six years of related work experience** OR
• A Master’s degree or higher.

**Related work experience MUST be in a position involving working with children or families. Fluency in Spanish is preferred. The incumbent shall provide a reliable means of transportation and possess a valid driver’s license for the performance of work responsibilities.
