Position Title: Instruction Librarian

Position Title: Instructional Services Librarian

Position Description: The Instructional Services Librarian is responsible for promoting and coordinating information literacy across multiple disciplines for a diverse community of students, staff, and faculty; presenting library instruction classes; providing reference services; and managing the Interlibrary Loan program.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Instruction. Provides information literacy instruction for students, faculty, and staff. Designs face-to-face and online instructional materials. Schedules and facilitates course-integrated instructional sessions, and coordinates instruction via faculty. Assesses instructional programs, including collecting session attendance data and feedback regarding library instructor effectiveness, student and faculty satisfaction, and incorporates assessment data to improve instruction overall. Creates library guides (LibGuides) for faculty and students to assist with assignments and course work. Assists with maintenance of the Welder Library webpage.

Reference Work. As a member of the reference team, provides proactive, user-centered reference assistance in-person and via email and phone.

Interlibrary Loan. Leads the interlibrary loan section to provide library resources not available at the Welder Library. Utilizes a variety of online, bibliographic databases and ILLiad (ILL management software) to process and monitor interlibrary loan requests to and from the Welder Library. Verifies, locates, and replies to interlibrary loan requests, sends out requested materials via courier and mail, and works with Integrated Library System circulation software to determine interlibrary loan item status and location.

Exceptional service orientation and high ethical standards.

Ability to manage data, documents, and other information locally and via online networks.

 

Organizational Relationships: Reports to Director of Library Services.

Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements
Master of Information Studies (MIS) or Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) (or equivalent) from an American Library Association-regionally accredited institution with three years professional experience in an academic library.

Preferred Qualifications.
Experience in distance education, library technology, and teaching are desirable. Use of a LMS (Canvas) is desirable as well.

Environmental Demands:
Physical Requirements. Carry various library materials weighing up to 35 lbs. to various library and campus areas. Ability to bend, reach, and twist to accommodate shelving and office filing.

Work Environment: The Library building and university campus. The Instruction Librarian is assigned to work in the Welder Library, University of Mary.

Normal working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday with one evening per week and approximately one weekend per month when classes are in session. This a 12-month appointment.
