Position: Innovation Specialist
Location: Elementary schools districtwide
Hours per day/FTE: combination of full-time and part-time positions to total 3.5 FTE

Job Description:
Forest Lake Area Schools is seeking qualified candidates to serve as Innovation Specialists beginning fall 2019. These are TOSA positions on teacher contract that will report to the school principal(s) and work with both students and teachers in our seven elementary schools, developing and providing instruction in the areas of STEM, technology integration, and gifted education. Those serving in this position at 1.0 will travel between schools. Depending on qualifications, those serving in this position at less than 1.0 may be able to pair with other part-time position(s) to serve full-time in a single school.

Qualifications/Licensure:
• Current Minnesota license in Elementary Education, Library Media Specialist or related field required
• Master’s degree in education or related field preferred
• Minimum five years’ successful classroom experience or equivalent preferred
• Demonstrated knowledge of the K-6 Minnesota math and science standards and ISTE technology standards
• Understanding of the engineering design process and its applications to problem-based learning
• Familiarity with coding at the elementary level
• Experience in research-based instructional strategies
• Experience with a wide variety of effective instructional technology tools and understanding of best practices in technology integration
• Experience providing enrichment opportunities to support accelerated and gifted learners
• Experience planning and facilitating professional development for both large and small groups
• Effective listening, written and oral communication skills, along with strong interpersonal skills when working with staff, students and community
• Ability to work in a team setting

Responsibilities
Work collaboratively with teachers, grade level teams and PLCs to plan and deliver STEM-focused instruction aligned to Minnesota math and science standards and ISTE technology standards and incorporating skills in coding and the engineering design process
Provide extended learning and enrichment opportunities for students through hands-on and problem-based learning
Plan and facilitate grade-wide/school-wide STEM-focused problem-solving activities that leverage critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and communication
Provide leadership and expertise in 21st Century learning through planning and facilitation of professional development to promote best practices in teaching and learning in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math
Facilitate professional development around best practices in instructional technology to help teachers effectively integrate digital tools into classroom instruction in order to provide a rich learning environment for all students
