Genealogy Library Manager (PT) – Minnesota Genealogical Society

Job title: Library Manager – 20-24 hours per week
Compensation: $25/hr.

JOB SUMMARY
The Library Manager provides professional support for the William J. Hoffman Library and Research Center, including planning, administration, collection management, and community genealogy community outreach.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Oversees and manages the library collection, catalog, and technology
• Provides training to volunteers who assist with cataloging, periodical check-in, and shelf-reading.
• Trains and manages interns
• Assists library patrons
• Participates in MGS Library Committee and Board meetings as requested.
• Works with the Library Committee and Board to develop goals and workplans.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: MLS degree with three years library experience

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
• Genealogy research knowledge and experience
• Knowledge of genealogy databases such as FamilySearch and Ancestry.com
• Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
• Experience with Dewey cataloging and Machine Readable Cataloging (MARC) standards
• Knowledge of Mandarin Library Automation

The William J. Hoffman Library and Research Center is operated by the Minnesota Genealogical Society, a nonprofit organization. The library holds collections of MGS and several other partner ethnic and nationality genealogy organizations. A non-lending library, the WJHRC holds about 30,000 books, journals, microfilms, maps, and other items used by genealogy researchers.
