DescriptionThe Board of Trustees of the Worth Public Library District is looking for a warm and creative new Director. The Village of Worth, known as “The Friendly Village,” is a southwest suburb of Chicago. The area has an increasingly diverse population of 10,970 and offers that sought-after, welcoming, small-town atmosphere. The Library’s 16 staff members serve patrons from a 10,200 square foot building on 111th Street near Harlem Avenue with an annual operating budget of $840,000.

The ideal candidate will understand the important role that technology plays in today’s libraries and they must be familiar with the upkeep of a well-used public building. They will be a good listener and a proactive communicator. They will support staff members, get to know residents, attend neighborhood events, and rally the return of patrons to the Library following the pandemic-related challenges. Experience with marketing programs and services through traditional and contemporary outlets is also a key to success.

The next Director will have highly developed interpersonal skills, working knowledge of public finances, and strong leadership capabilities. They must set a good example for professional development by promoting and attending continuing education opportunities. They will also work closely with Trustees, staff, residents, and stakeholders in the planning and implementation of the District’s next strategic plan.

The Director reports to a 7-member, elected Board of Trustees. Minimum qualifications for the position include a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program, 5 years of related work, and 3 years of supervisory experience. This is a full-time, exempt position with an annual salary starting at $70,000.00, based on qualifications and experience. The Library also offers a generous benefits package including participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund.
