Friends University is seeking to fill the Director of Library position in Wichita, KS. This position provides strategic leadership for all functions of the library in collaboration with other academic units and in support of the mission of the University; serves as primary advocate for the library. Responsibilities include; directing library operation, manage and supervise library support staff, consulting with university faculty and administration to determine library resource and service need of academic programs and departments. Build on the work of the current library leaders to maintain and develop the library as a hub for student learning. Establish, analyze, and evaluate strategic and long-range plans for the library and the professional staff. Work hours are typically 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday and can include some weekends and/or evenings.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of five years of experience with increasing administrative responsibilities in an academic library.
  • Master’s in Library or Information Science required; additional graduate degree in an academic discipline desirable.

Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation. Servant leader with strong interpersonal and communication skills. Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Demonstrated expertise with information technology and library systems. Commitment to higher education at the undergraduate and graduate level.
