Qualifications
Required
• ALA accredited Masters in Library/Information Science or equivalent combination of advanced degree and relevant experience.
• Minimum of fifteen years’ experience in library or related organizational context including significant years of experience with management responsibilities.
• Demonstrated organizational abilities and leadership, including facility to work proactively and collaboratively across stakeholder communities.
• Demonstrated leadership in developing innovative programs and services.

About the Job
The University of Minnesota University Libraries seeks a visionary, strategic, and creative senior leader for the Director of Minitex, a regional information and resource sharing organization. Reporting to the University Librarian and Dean of Libraries, the Minitex Director provides administrative and programmatic leadership for a robust portfolio of services. Its organizational relationship enables access to University infrastructure, library collections, and expertise, as well as collaborative program development and outreach services. Celebrating its 49th year, Minitex is a joint program of the University of Minnesota Libraries and the Minnesota Office of Higher Education.

Context
Minitex is a state-supported network organization serving academic, public, school, state government, and special libraries and working cooperatively to improve library service for their users in Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Minitex is funded by the Minnesota Legislature through the Minnesota Office of Higher Education to serve Minnesota academic and state government libraries. The Minnesota State Library Services, a unit of the Minnesota Department of Education, provides additional funding to support services for Minnesota public and school libraries. Other funding sources include legislative appropriation, grants, contracts, service fees, and Minnesota Legacy funding for arts and cultural heritage.

Originally established to provide resource sharing from the University of Minnesota Libraries to libraries within the state, the Minitex service suite includes: the MnLINK discovery system and resource sharing, delivery, the Electronic Library of Minnesota (statewide licenses), ebooks, cooperative online reference services, the Minnesota Digital Library (with over 190 cultural heritage organizations contributing unique digital content), library staff development programs, publishing support, and procurement services for library products and services.

Responsibilities
• Provides administrative leadership for the planning, policy, and operations of Minitex.
• In consultation with the Minitex Policy Advisory Council and other advisory committees, develops overall Minitex program priorities and policies.
• Develops and oversees Minitex’s ~$9 million budget and procurement funds; develops financial and program documentation for the Office of Higher Education (OHE) and participating libraries and cultural heritage organizations.
• Maintains appropriate contact with Minnesota legislators and staff in support of Minitex and other higher education and library budget requests.
• Develops grants, legislative proposals, and service fees to enhance or extend the Minitex service portfolio.
• Within the University Libraries organization, contributes to library policy and program development, leveraging Libraries’ resources for Minitex programs.
• Travel as a representative of Minitex to state, regional, and national conferences and meetings; engages Minitex in collaborations that further advance Minitex programs.
• Communicates with and provides data and analysis on Minitex programs and services to the regional library community to inform library planning priorities for appropriations and legislative action.
• Engages in outreach to all types of libraries, consortial groups, and cultural heritage organizations; develops and sustains partnerships with stakeholders in the library, archives, museums, education, and network communities.
• Contributes to the development of state and regional planning for library services.
• Oversees contracts for library services with North and South Dakota and reciprocal borrowing arrangements with other partner organizations and states.
