Founded in 1869, St. Cloud State University is one of the largest public universities in Minnesota with more than 15,000 students. The 100-acre regionally-accredited university is located along the oak-crowned west bank of the Mississippi River. The University Library is one of the three largest academic libraries in Minnesota and enjoys recognition for its instructional program, technology adoption, collaborative relationships with faculty across campus, and dedication to student success. The University Library is located in the James W. Miller Center, which opened in 2000.
The Dean of the University Library reports to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs and assumes responsibility for management, which includes supervision of faculty and staff, and leadership of the Library. The Dean is responsible for the fiscal health of the Library, which includes administering the budget and raising external funds. The Dean plays a pivotal role in setting strategic direction for the Library; strengthening current programs, technologies, and services; developing new initiatives; and enhancing support of instruction and scholarship to further student and faculty success. The incumbent is responsible for advancing the mission of the university by creating and maintaining an infrastructure that fosters high quality services and by building strong and collaborative relationships within the University, the Minnesota State System, and with external partners. The Dean will serve as a member of the University’s management team and work collaboratively with other college/school deans and administrators to provide innovative and robust programs, services, and collections.  www.stcloudstate.edu/library/

Responsibilities:
•  Provide leadership in developing and implementing a strong, cooperative, and collaborative vision for the University Library that is aligned with and advances the mission of the University.
•  Provide leadership in cultivating and sustaining a university-wide culture of collaborative learning and innovative pedagogies that supports and enhances student success.
•  Provide leadership in advancing the use of technology to enrich instruction, foster scholarship, and support student success.
•  Provide leadership for the development of robust partnerships with both the university’s academic and student support units.
•  Provide leadership for the development, interpretation, and implementation of policies, regulations, and procedures related to the Library.
•  Determine fiscal and personnel priorities, make budget requests, and allocate resources within the unit.  Manage programming, services, and business functions as well as supervise faculty and staff within the Library.
•  Assist in fund-raising activities for the Library and for the University.  Seek and secure external funding and grants to support Library programs, services, collections and special initiatives.
•  Represent the university on various councils and committees at the local, regional, national, and international levels, particularly in professional library circles.  Participate as a member of the Academic Affairs Council, the President’s Management Team, and other university committees charged with policy-related decisions.  Adhere to applicable collective bargaining agreements; federal and state laws; and Minnesota State policies and procedures.

Qualifications:
Required:
•  Masters of Library Science from an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited program and a second graduate degree from a regionally-accredited institution.
•  10 years of related experience which includes teaching in a college/university setting; administrative leadership; budget management; faculty mentoring; and library program, services, and collections development.
•  Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and administrators across the campus; within a higher education system or consortium; and in the community.
•  Demonstrated ability to prioritize library activities; communicate the priorities to the Library faculty and staff and University leadership; and champion initiatives and advocate on behalf of the Library.
•  Demonstrated ability to understand and implement technologies that support collaborative learning and innovative pedagogies to advance student success.
•  Demonstrated commitment to respect and adhere to the professional and ethical standards of the profession and the Academy.
•  Demonstrated commitment to supporting equity and inclusion efforts in the University Library and at the University; demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations.

Preferred:
•  Leadership experience in a University Library including budget management and fundraising.
•  Experience at the department chair, director, associate dean, or dean level.
•  Successful experience in designing, developing, and administering innovative programs, services, and technologies in response to the University’s needs.
•  Demonstrated ability to recognize and respect faculty/staff’s strengths and leverage them to the benefit of the Library and the University
•  Experience with academic collective bargaining.
