Description
Hennepin County Library (HCL) is seeking a collaborative individual to support our goal of better connecting with and delivering relevant library services as part of our community embedded library services initiative. This position will play a leading role in coordinating and co-leading library programs and services in the Cedar Riverside neighborhood and the Cedar Riverside Opportunity Center. The person hired will work directly with the Cedar Riverside Opportunity Center and in the community with a focus on building and facilitating relationships with the community, the staff at the opportunity center and nearby libraries.

The opportunity center is a partnership between Hennepin County Workforce Development, Hennepin County Library, Emerge, Minneapolis College and the City of Minneapolis. The center is designed to be a youth focused one-stop shop for educational, workforce and career pathway services with direct access to skill building opportunities that lead to well-paying jobs. Youth and young adults in the East African community are the target population for receiving center services.

Library liaisons co-lead library focused community engagement initiatives. They work in partnership with a local librarian to extend library services directly into communities. Projects seek to identify and develop key partnerships, including partnerships with other Hennepin County initiatives and local, community organizations. Liaisons use skills in community engagement and outreach to build relationships with members of local community and cultural organizations and businesses to shape program elements and to inform the work of Hennepin County Library workgroups, helping ensure initiatives reflect community needs and interests.

Location and hours:
This position is located at the Downtown Minneapolis Central Library 2880 Hennepin Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55408.
The work schedule will require working evening and weekend hours. This position will require traveling between Minneapolis Central Library, the Cedar Riverside Opportunity Center and other libraries.

About the position type:
This is a full-time, benefit earning, Somali bilingual position.

In this position, you will:
• Work collaboratively with library staff to reach out to targeted communities and develop strategic and effective partnerships that connect underserved residents with library service.
• Collaborate with partner organizations to build responsive library services in the community.
• Serve as a representative of HCL at community meetings and events to stay connected with the community and promote HCL services in the area.
• Work in partnership with library staff in coordinating library programs and services occurring at the Cedar Riverside Opportunity Center that meet the needs of the community and fulfill the mission of HCL.
• Implement strategic library services and programs occurring directly in the East African community. Examples include: Pop-up library events, Homework Help program, and the Youth Career & • Leadership program series.
• Develop, manage, and measure service outcomes to ensure work meets identified goals.

Need to have:
• One of the following:
– Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, health and human services, library services, or another field appropriate to the position.
– Four or more years of experience related to this position, such as community engagement/outreach or volunteer experience, or experience working with the Somali population, a school, library, or non-profit organization (experience can be substituted for education on a year for year basis).
• The ability to communicate fluently in Somali and English.

• Demonstrated ability to deliver inclusive and responsive services to diverse communities.
• Experience building community connections with a wide variety of organizations, including schools, to collaborate, develop, and deliver programs or services.
• Experience working collaboratively with teams and groups.
• Access to reliable transportation to travel between Minneapolis Central Library, the Cedar Riverside Opportunity Center and other libraries.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate effectively with personnel at all levels.

This position requires bilingual fluency in Somali and English. Bilingual candidates must pass a language assessment that may qualify for additional bilingual pay and duties
