Children’s Librarian – Grand Marais Public Library

The Grand Marais Public Library is seeking a Librarian to perform a broad range of library services for the general public, specializing in developing children’s literacy skills and programs. Activities include: Helping children and parents locate and select library materials; maintaining the children’s collection; conducting programs for ages 0 – 18 and creating promotional items to announce them; assisting the public with the use of modern technology; performing community outreach; and contributing to the greater good of the library by supporting broader goals. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to cheerfully and tactfully deal with a wide variety of people; knowledge of library materials and classification systems; knowledge and ability to use reference materials including online resources; knowledge and ability to use modern technology; ability to plan, schedule and organize workload; ability to design and implement fun, educational programs for children; an ability to work independently and collaboratively; an ability to perform clerical work such as using word processing, photocopying, emailing, and using Internet tools.

Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s Degree. Experience working in a library and/or strong experience in the education of children. Availability to work some week nights and Saturdays.

Desirable qualifications: Professional experience as a children’s librarian; several years of successful experience working with children in an educational capacity; high level of computer literacy.

Starting Salary: $17.47/hr., approximately 25 hours per week including some weekends and evenings.
