Job Opening: Children’s Curriculum Coordinator
• Plans, produces, and promotes children’s events including story times, summer reading programs, and early out events. Develops creative curriculum, focusing on early literacy and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) skills. Creates and leads original events. Holds events at branch and mini libraries as needed. Identifies and utilizes skilled resource people to present programs and information.
• Establishes and presents curriculum for parents, individual and agencies providing childcare, and other professionals in the community who work with children.
• Understands theories of infant, child, and adolescent learning and development and their implications for library service. Stays informed of current and emerging trends in librarianship.
• Keeps abreast of new children’s materials. Demonstrates a knowledge and appreciation of children’s materials. Encourages the use of materials and services through book talks, reading lists, and other tools.
• Attends meetings as requested. Makes dynamic working relationships with local businesses and local organizations in order to promote library services and hold events outside of the library, helping the library reach beyond the library building’s walls. Serves on Children’s Programming Team and the Traverse des Sioux Library Cooperative Youth Services Committee.
• Provides an inviting atmosphere for library patrons. Ensure children’s area is stocked, clean, tidy, and ready to provide a positive memorable experience for patrons. Develops children’s displays which promote library usage.
• Develops and maintains the children’s collection, including weeding and analyzing to determine needs.
• Develops playful learning kits for playful learning area.
• Serves as lead reader’s advisory and reference person for children’s services—offering meaningful and useful recommendations of books, movies, and music. Instructs children in information gathering and research skills. Uses online and print resources.
• Creates excellent customer experiences—making patrons feel welcome and providing positive and memorable patron experiences.
• Instructs patrons in the location and use of library materials.
• Assists with computer and e-reader questions.
• Checks materials in and out, renews and reserves materials, and takes meeting room and computer reservations.
• Processes fines, interlibrary loan materials, and new library cards.
• Prepares, processes, and distributes courier items.
• Assumes responsibility for the library as directed in the absence of the Lead Librarian and Director.
• Performs related duties as assigned or apparent.

• Bachelor’s degree (Library Science, Elementary Education, or Early Childhood Education preferred)
• Two years of experience working with children
• Computer literacy with MS office proficiency
• Knowledge of library operations and library collection
• Customer service experience
• Ability to stand, walk, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, climb, push/pull up to 50 pounds, and lift up to 25 pounds
Anticipated Hiring Range:
$17-23 an hour (salary is negotiable based on qualifications and experience)
Paid sick days, paid holidays, and paid vacation
40 hours per week including some weekends and evenings as needed
