The Polish American Library in Minneapolis is seeking a cataloging intern!
We are currently in RiverPlace but we will be moving to, hopefully, 40th Avenue in Columbia Heights. Most of our patrons come from the Holy Cross Church which has a Polish Mass. The church is located on University Avenue NE. It would be only one turn for them to find us.
The library has always been run by volunteers with various levels of skills. The materials have been cataloged in two different systems. We have about 75% of the materials in one system and 25% in the other making it confusing to file. We have been advised to revise the smaller portion to the match the larger. While we only have about 5,500 books, it will be a job.
Now that we are moving, it is a perfect time to revise what we are doing to better methods. The student does not have to speak Polish. If they did, it would be much easier. The library is about 75% English (about Polish subjects) and 25% Polish.
